Tamil Nadu's progressive step

This edit in the latest EPW complements Tamil Nadu for being the first State to recognise the rights of the transgender, treating it as a third category. A recent order by the Education Department of the State, according to the edit, enables the transgender to choose any institution they like, men's, women's, or co-educational. Earlier, members of transgender were treated as men, and they had to suffer considerable harassment because of this. Tamil Nadu has also taken a number of steps for the welfare of the transgender, clearly setting a model for the other States.
